S4r clutch wear and detonating noise Eeeek!!!

Ok tried to post this on the S4R section but no responses....it is quiet in there tho.
Righteee ho! 2nd attempt! Can anyone help?

Two queries I have rattling around in my heed at the moment, Number 1 is:

Bike just done under 8k, recently had service. Noticed that I occasionally get a squeek out of the clutch mainly when cold and the clutch behaves a little eratically also. Surely this cannot be the plates wearing out already???? Is there a test I can easily perform and what are the best replacements if there are on their way out?

Number 2, Noticed that occasionally (and recently more often) when bliping throttle or wrenching it for whatever reason (under load and otherwise). I sometimes get what I can only describe as a nuted phut or pink (kinda like a muffled pop), which may be coming from the top of the engine...........Anyone any ideas what that could be? and what may be causing it?

Thanks in advance.

Rich.

Sounds like your clutch plates have glazed a bit and it's prob full of clutch dust as well , whip them out give everything a good clean take the glaze off the plates with some wet and dry on flat surface .
As for the sound from the top of the engine the first port of call would be to check the breather tube isn't kinked or blocked cos it sounds like your getting a vacumn in the tank

Yeah, the clutch thing is normal. It's good practice to take the plates out from time to time and wipe them, and the inside of the basket, hub, etc, with brake cleaner.

Don't overtighten the spring screws when you reassemble, and make sure you replace the pressure plate correctly; the hole with the arrow goes over the turret with the slot in it. It should already be like that, of course.

It's only a half-hour job at the most.

thanks chaps,

Will do the checks and the clutch (open) pressure plate is looking a wee bit dirty. Been meaning to clean it. Can I access the plates without special tools? Cant remember from when I fitted the pressure plate and stainless springs.

Ta.
