lowering a multi

I am on the search for the ideal other bike to keep alongside my blade. I'd like another ducati and the idea of a more upright, easy riding bike strongly appeals!!

having tried a hyper that seemd fun and comfy, but had a quick sit on two up and there is not enough room for a passenger, other than to the shops up the road! so thats out....

I have tried a couple of multis, and although found them a bit wallowy when cracking on, I'd be surprised if it is much different on the competition - eg 1200gs or dl1000

biggest issue is height, both getting on (rear seat) and touching the floor

how much can they be lowered, and not sacrice too much ground clearance? bearing in mind my st2 ran out often, I'm cautious of it being too low as I do carry a nice lean angle and corner speed

otherwise, its non ducati again!!

lowering bike

Hi not a problem lowering bike, we have done ours to min on the tye bar, easy job no problem with height now, easy touch the floor. We have done 9000 miles this year and had no problem. We ride mostly 2 up average 23/24 stone the bike has ridden most of its miles in the bumpy yorkshire and lancashire hills and lakes mountains, but most recently in france, I can trully say the handling of the bike is second to none having also owned a Tuono and a Blade the Ducati does work. However I must say I did get my rear shock spring upgraded to stop the wallowing this was done by an Ohlins speciallist and the bike was transformed. pre load settings 1 up 10 turns, 2 up 16. / comp, 1 up 8 clicks, 2 up 6 clicks / rebound 32 clicks.
We have also found the Dunlop roadsmarts work really well

good luck and do buy the Ducati you will be pleased with it . we own 1100s 2007 model

are you sure you need it lowered? I'm 5'7 and did not struggle to touch the floor even with preload on and ride height up, on slopes i'd need to drop it on one side but it was easy to do. I now own a GS and even with the lowered seat its higher than a multi.

any long travel bike feels more wallowy, it doesn't feel as secure as a sportbike but you soon get used to it. a gs is no different although the telelever front end does seem to limit "feel" . I owned a standard and an S multi, if i was to buy again i'd go for the standard suspension, i never felt as comfortable on the ohlins, try both before going for an S.....

I am 5'7" with inside leg of 29". The bike is not too tall for me.

I'm surprise you had problems with ground clearance on your ST. Sounds like your posture could use some improvement. Get that head down and to the inside.

A lot of folks claim to have clearance problems with the MTS too, but I've had mine on the track several times and if you keep your head down and to the inside of the bike, you have all the clearance in the world.
