Sod's Law

Typical. Riding home to Bridlington on friday evening cruising up the A64 at a steady 80ish enjoying myself and i'm thinking "the bike sounds great and running like a dream" when seconds later, "Pop..Bang.." and i'm coasting to a halt at the side of the road. "B*llocks" Leave it for a few minutes then press the starter and she fires up for several seconds popping and f*rting then dies. Repeat this several times and the same keeps happening. Eventually manage to ride another 250 yards to a lay bye and phone the recovery people. I'm fairly sure it's the digiplex ignition unit yet again so i'm on the hunt for one if anyone just happens to have one lying around doing nowt. Thanks to SOS Motorcycle Recovery from Sheffield for getting me home.

Ive been given this, Auto & Truck Electronics as a possible cure. They'll fix it and warrant the repair for 2 years. Cost is $249 US Dollars which i suppose is reasonable. I'll let you all know the outcome in the weeks ahead.

Digiplex

Can't offer you a Digiplex but can offer you some advice to make it entirely reliable! When you get a replacement ignition unit, change the Paso ignition coils for a Kawaski module. I have changed mine to Kawasaki GPZ500s coils. The standard coils have a very low impedance causing failure of the Digiplex unit, my standard coils measure 0R8 ohms! The GPZ500s coils show a more reasonable 3R5 ohms and are readily changed over because the HT lead is retained by a screw in collar but you have to double up the positive supply to the coils. You can see the Kawasaki coil behind the radiators within this picture (if the link works).

Thanks for the advice Lucky. I was going to do this mod and in fact went to a M/C breaker/dealer in Leeds for the parts on wednesday. When i got there the guy checked his screen to confirm they had them then disappeared for 10 minutes only to return and say, "Sorry mate but i can't find 'em." As the thread says......Sods Law!!!
