Just Picked up my New Paul Smart
Blimey! I thought it would never happen...this deal was in and out of bed like.........(fill in as appropriate) Anyway, just picked up my 06 Paul Smart and ridden it back from Exeter, about 25 miles. Full report if anyone's interested later, but first impressions are that it's brilliant fun - obviously not as fast as my 999, but it's so light and nimble around the corners, and the brakes are so good that I could probably get from A to B along most roads just as quickly. The termi's sound the tits, and being of a certain age I think it looks sooooo cool. Needs an open clutch cover and some carbon nic-nacs, but other than that....Brill.

I don't think age comes into it. I am "only" 33 and I think they look great even though I grew up in an era of Fireblades and GSXR's...

They are very reminiscent of the bevel era though don't you think?

Yes, but that was an era that I cannot remember... I still appreciate the looks of the Paul Smart bikes, despite a lack of any nostalgic link to bikes of that style.

Does anyone know if I can ditch the baffles in the Termis, or if I do this will the fueling need altering? The PS sounds pretty good, but I can't help thinking CX500 when it's ticking over.

was looking for this thread!!
Glad you like it! John drilled his baffles out, you could then prob replace drilled out rivet with a screw for the MOT (if you had too) , give me a shout in the week mate, would love to see the bike

Mine was set up with baffles removed - I wouldn't think it makes any difference to fueling either way.
Sounds awsome though - a very distinctive 'rasp' note, complety different to my other 1000cc v-twin (Guzzi V11).
Glad you like the bike - is it more, or less comfortable than your old 999?

Cheers guys.
Jimmy, I'll give you a bell this week and we'll stick on Buster Crabb's clutch cover and maybe have a ride out if you're free. I'm off now to drill out the baffles and see what happens, if the engine blows up then at least everyone else's Paul Smart will go up in exclusivity by 1/2000th.
Probably.
smartv11: an upside down barstool is more comfortable than my 999.

did it come with the DP ECU ? normally duc dealers sold them and termis as a pair with airbox lid/filter.
If so then its probably running rich already and ok.
if its on stock ecu its likely to be ok if the airbox filter and lid are stock too.
though best way to check is on a rolling road.
Mine was ok on zards (baffles in as its still loud) on stock ecu and airbox.
if the airbox lid was removed/tweaked then it was tooooooo lean but did give a nice midrange torque boost as well as top end hp.

Blimey Macca, this is all a bit techi for me. I've removed the baffles (there were screws holding them in so I guess they've been out before) the bike now sounds like a proper Duke! I'll look through the paperwork that came with the bike and see if I can find any reference to the ECU/ airbox being changed, meanwhile I'll ride it anyway and see how it goes..
On another subject, the wheel spokes must be made of chocolate! although they're clean enough, I can feel some pitting and specs of rust on them which is easy enough to clean off, but any tips on keeping them looking good ( I know you've changed wheels on yours, so maybe this is the long term answer, but I do like the look of the spoked wheels)
One more thing, do you know how many PS's were brought into the country?

Kes
I believe around 90 bikes are in UK, I ordered mine when first announced!
I'm using SFC50 all over the bike and its working a treat as I've had none of the corrosion problems I read about. I'm glad I spent the time with the SFC and a rag applying it to all the spokes!

You could take a look at some (pricey!) wheels from Alpina:
PAK BIKES HOME OF THE FLEDA & OTHER DUCATI SPORT CLASSIC ACCESSORIES
Not sure who supplies these in the UK but someone will probably know.
