Best Look

I have put up two pics in the sportclassic section of different tail light/plate combinations on the S, one is hand made and the other has been purchased. Which do you think is the best and why, pic 804 0r 800?

I prefer 804 in these pics - may think different if I see it from another angle though.

Pic 804 ...

or Pic 800 ...

804 for me, looks like a proper conversion and puts the plate at the right place whereas the 800 looks a little bit home made (no offense meant) thats been done to hide away the plate rather than tidy up the rear which I think 804 does rather nicely. Both are an improvement.

Dave, can you let us know what it is like? I`m considering one but don`t know what to do about the number plate light, the DP cars mod does not look like it has one.
thanks in advance

That was exactly my concern with it, however, after years of modifying my monster I'm confident I'll find a way of attaching the OE one or using an LED set up.

If you look at the attached diagram the number plate light is removable and seems to exit through that little cutout in the black housing, the easy thing to do would be too make another small nock when the light is inverted and run it straight down.
The other option I'll look into is another tail lens with a clear insert pointing down onto the plate.
Any other ideas will be welcome.

Thanks for the input fellas, 804 is the Dpcars and 800 is my own, if you get the Dp cars, you will find that the lights point down a bit so you might have to do like I did and insert a longer spacer than supplied to bring them back up. If you want further different angle pics of the Dpcars before you puchase just ask.

I have the DPcars tail in the post so may very well ask, was it all spacers or just a couple to alter the angle?

Nothing wrong with your own BTW, though it would be asking for trouble with the cops here with the numberplate in that position.

No just the one for the tail of the tailight assembly, I used a piece of black hydraulic hose for the ease of making small adjustments by cutting until I had it where it looked right to me, so in the drawing you posted it fits in under the tail where the stud (item 12 to item 13) goes with a longer bolt. This also acts as a flexible mounting.

On the 1000S If you use this you kit you have to shorten the L bars on the Ventura rack as it moves the mounting point towards the front of the bike, I would think that it would be similar on the sport

Thanks for that it would be the same for the sport and I wouldn't have noticed until the day before a big trip when I tried and fit the rack!!!!! If I did the conversion I might revert back to the original tail piece when fitting the rack so the lights are not underneath it see how much hassle it is.
