Steering Damper on Sport 1000

Pulled the trigger on the bike, finally, last week.
I can't wait to pick her up, should be with me either this week or next (just got to get hold of David and get some sprockets)...

Anyway, question - met a guy at the weekend who warned me about lack of steering damper on the Sport 1000, apparently his mate had a wobble and came off...

Has anyone fitted a damper?
Pros and cons?
Price??

Cheers

Yes Juneja, we fitted a Wilbers Damper to Nodbal's Sport 1000 the other week. I think he's pleased with it......ask him.....

Hi,
David sorted me a wilbers steering damper, really pleased with the performance, bike tracks much better.....you might want to think about doing the springs as well?

Cheers Nodbal,

Have you done springs as well as damper?
Was wondering if the springs might be sufficient on their own..?

I know how much the fork springs are but have no idea of cost for damper?

I did the springs first, made a real difference. Have not had chance to do a lot of miles since the steering damper, but seems to have calmed things down a lot, letting the forks get on with their job.

In truth, going for both is an extravagance. it depends what your biggest bugbear with the bikes front end is!

i had two:
1. forks bottoming out when braking with a pillion on board, plus their constant compression upsetting the bike on rough roads.
2. suffered a couple of head shakes.

new springs certainly fixed 1. and possibly helped with 2.

steering damper has added piece of mind and a bit more stability.

do one....see how you get on!

Interesting to hear all the stories on the front end. I changed my whole front end made a huge differance. Anything from a monster or st2 st4 st3 will bolt straight in aswell the top yoke or triple clamp from a 916 748 and all the rest should bolt trsaight in then you can get loads of differant forks to fit. but my main question was how much is a wilbers steering damper going to cost me and where from.

Give David (or PM him: nogaromill999) a bell at Solo Corse (co.uk) re damper, I had an informative chat with him today.
Good luck,
Ravi
