Ducati Sport 1000 - Rear Tyre Needed?

Just noticed that the rear tyre centre tread is very low. The tyre has only done 3400 miles. This is the 'classic' tread Pirelli Phantom especially made for this bike. Anyone replaced the rear tyre and what did you go for?

'Only' 3400? Thats bloody good ! Mine are usually shagged out between 1200 and 2000............but then I use a soft compound tyre, like a Dunlop D209GP, a Bridgestone BT002R, Metzeler Racetech etc......

You could replace it with Pirelli Diablo, I understand it's the same compound tyre, just with a modern tread pattern rather than a "classic" one. I rate the tyre enormously.
I'd say 3400 miles is about normal.

I wonder if running a phantom front and a diablo rear will cause any issues. suppose I could try it and if it didn't work bite the bullet and buy a diablo front. I will check out the prices.

As I understand it the Phantom IS a Diablo, with a custom tread pattern, as such fitting a Diablo should be no different to fitting a Phantom, apart from being cheaper and easier to source!

Wink Pirelli Diablo

Pirelli phantoms - 4000miles - rear tyre - I noticed the rear tyre had developed a square shaped profile - time to change me thinks!

had pirelli Diablos fitted front and rear, its a pity, the front phantom was pretty un blemished.

Anyways done 400 miles on the diablos, I dont if its new tyre syndrome but there seems to be a definite improvement, specially in the wet and dry!

i will let you all know how the tyres perform over the forthcoming miles
