Arrow ST2 - hard clutch

Hello,

The clutch of my ST2 (1998 - 62000 kms) is becoming harder and harder ...

It has been drained last summer with new liquid.

Is there anything I could do to get it less hard ??

Thanks

Stephane

Hard one

This one's gonna need looking into....literally! My guess would be corroded/seizing slave cylinder (engine end) or similar problems with the master cylinder (at the handlebar)
I'm presuming that the clutch still works but is becoming heavier at the lever? Perhaps try disconnecting the hydraulic hose at the slave cylinder then pump the lever, being careful to catch the fluid and keep it off painted surfaces. The lever should move very easily in and out.If it does and fluid squirts from the open end of the hose then the fault may well be with the slave cylinder.
Reconnect hose then remove slave cylinder from the engine.Squeeze clutch lever gently,if the action's still heavy then its the slave cylinder.
The slave cylinder is rebuildable and the seals are readily available from dealers.Commonest cause of corrosion within the master/slave cylinder(s) is water absorbed by (hydroscopic) brake/clutch fluid and the primary reason why hydraulic fluids should be changed at least every two years.
Hope this is of some help and you get the ST back to normal! Steve.

Some new fluid may help, but also check the clutch drums. At those kinda km's the clutch basket and drum will have had a hard life. The plates can give them a hammering and wear notches where they meet. You can dress them up with a file to prolong life.
