Arrow Satellite Navigation Wiring

Has anyone got any recommendations where to take the power off for a Sat Nav?
Or any web links to others who have done it?
The Garmin I am fitting comes with a line fuse but I'm not particularly fond of them, I see that fuse 8 is classed as spare, I am currently leaning towards that.

My MTS has a spare waterproof connector on the frame just to the right of the steering head. I've made up a connector and a length of lead with a cigar lighter connector the other end which sits nicely in my tank bag. Sat Nav connects to that Hey Presto.

Check to see if you have one as well as that connector runs through the ignition and goes off when you switch the ignition off.

No the ST2 doesnt have that, it has an accessory socket about half way along the left side under the seat.
I assume its fitted there for easy access to any powered devices on the rider / passenger.
The Sat Nav will be mounted on the triple clamp and I dont particularly want miles of wiring if it can be wired with a short and tidy connection.

Why not run something up from the 'Powerlet' socket under your seat - you wont see the wiring then, there may be something useful here - Powerlet - Powersport Standard Connector

Thanks Mark thats useful (now added to my favourites).

I am sure I came across a mention of a mod kit on one of the Ducati ST2 forums, but as you know trying to search for SAT & NAV aint gonna work!

Mind you it might be on desmo times, (althought they lost their tech tips) I'll have a look!

I have put an accessory power outlet on my dash just above the fuse box. If I remember correctly connected it to the spare. Make sure you disconect the battery because the circuit is unswitched. I soldered all conections and put a weather proof plug in the line for easy removal of my dash pannel. I used a small weather resistant accessory socket just like the one under the seat. The flex comes out of the plug and is cable tied down to it to avoid interfering with the handlebars. The cable is then connected to a inline cigarette socket mounted on a removable bracket that holds my Navman. The bracket is velcroed to the triple clamp and the Navman velcroed to the bracket. reading the GPS in the sun is difficult though. Hope this helps.

Thanks All

Eventually followed Marks advice and ran it down the frame to the Power Outlet under the seat, quite a tidy job!
