Arrow Air Filter Holes blanked off?

The top of my ST2's air box has six holes two at the front with the two inlet pipes.
One at each side and two at the back, these have been blanked off with duct tape, should they be open? or are they normally blanked off and perhaps used in other bike model configurations?

If it is like an ST4S (which I think it is) they should not be there at all. These could have been put there by a previous owner. Only holes are at the front with the snorkels poking out

Cool

Thanks John I had a feeling that was the case, no sign off them in any images I can find in the manuals!

Makes me wonder what else has been modified!

Bike: 2001 ST4

I dont know much about ST2's but I've copied this from - ST4 - Sigma Performance Ducati

'Taking the airbox intake snorkels out upped the noise but made no difference to the power. Two extra 25mm holes in the back of the top got us a couple of HP at the top, but we were after the mid range, progressively stripping out the back of the airbox top got us nearly everything we wanted. 5 bhp came from just that mod all the way from 4500 to 9000, a couple of hp for the last bit, the only loss to the completely open box being 2 to 3 hp from 8000 to the redline, we got all the torque improvements up to 9000 too. If we have an ST4 race I'll worry about the last bit.'

OK so it can make a few BHP difference to an ST4, possibly to an ST2 it may help slightly more with only two valves, but it is seriously unlikely that I am going to use it on a track in race conditions.
Surely if you want more bhp you start with an ST4 not an ST2!

No Issues Mark

My comment is really directed against the previous owner but then maybe he decided the ST2 didn't have what he wanted and chopped it in for something with more native oomph.
I am very happy with the performance, its got more than enough for me, my 1200 Trophy (deceased) had more grunt / torque out of the box but I could never use it, the big fairing meant cruising speeds of 120-130 where like cruising at 70 on the ST2 and I am surprised (lucky) I never met Mr Traffic Cop!

I have fitted an aftermarket touring screen which overcomes the being sucked off the bike at 90+ problem but I am not sure, that its the best thing for my license.

I know I should practice restraint, however once on the bike and when that grin factor steps in!!!

Sorry Officer!
