RIDE mag.

Any one see this month's Ride comic?

They've got a used guide to STs. Apparently the ST2 uses the SS900 air cooled engine! This 'fact' is stated at least 3 times in the article, so I guess I can save a few kilos by binning the radiator, water pump and coolant tank etc .

What an informative and useful piece of jounalism for anyone interested in buying an ST2 . Didn't seem too bad for ST4 and ST4s but apparently ST2 & ST4 have preload adjustment only on the Forks...Could have sworn my 00 ST2 has compression and rebound adjustment too...not that I've used it!

So if you want to know all about Ducati's ST range....don't waste your money buying RIDE...

Or why don't you save the cover price of Ride mag and spend it on a pint instead - because - you can read the ST Model History Thread posted by MarkST on Ducatisti

The best thing about it!

Actually the article wasn't that bad at giving a general impression of the ST range (a bit negative about the ST4 I thought), just wish they could've got the details right.

The author said something about the ST2 having a different frame to the ST4 & ST4s, anyone know if that's true, or was he just making stuff up to pad out the word count?

It did seem like he'd never actually seen or ridden an ST2.

The early ST4's used the same frame as the ST2. From 2001 on, the ST4 frames were modified to take larger engine mounting bolts - I very much doubt that the author is aware of this though. Incidentally, after the introduction of the Monster S4 which uses the same frame as the ST4/ST4s, all other monsters were updated to also use the St4/ST4s frame, up until the introduction of the 2008 range of new Monsters.

How could an article, that is supposed to be researched, get something so basic, so very wrong?

I know journo's make this kind of **** up often enough, but it wouldn't leave you with much faith in their knowledge (or lack of).

Its no wonder I don't buy magazines any more.

Ride and other Mags ought to employ MarkST to do the serious writing for them - i.e. someone who rides the bike, not imagines what the model differences are. As I said, save the cover price for something much more educational and beneficial - a lovely pint.

So don't they also do the survey we were bleating about last week, the one with half the Ducati line up missing?

It is hard to fathom. Any journalist worthy of the description will know that they can go on to a message board like this one and get ALL the answers they need, (free)rehash it and write a pukka article, even that is assuming that they know f... all about the subject in the first place!
RIDE is rubbish anyway, BIKE quite a bit better I find with a bit more expertise and experience from it's writing staff. I suppose the snag is that reading about bikes is a poor substitute for riding them!
