C spanner for rear spring

My ST2 was first registered June 2001, not sure if its a Showa or a Sachs fitted, how do I tell the difference?

I want to buy a C spanner to adjust the preload up a little, as its set at 2 notches (lugs notches or whatever) from the lowest setting. I am not of the lightest build and two up with luggage I suspect the bike is going to need all the help it can get.

My bike, bought second hand did not come with any underseat kit at all, any idea where I can purchase the C spanner (and maybe some of the other original tools)?

I look on Ebay from time to time but have not seen anything.

It should say in the 'ST Model History' I posted in the stickies at the top of the ST4 forum. Alternatively it may say in the freely downloadable ST2 workshop manual Stu_C posted a few days ago. The C spanner should be available from your nearest Ducati dealer I would have thought.
Mark.

Thanks Blackie, watching it!

Mark
I read your history and it says

1.2.5 2001
2001 was the last year the ST4 was imported into the US, although they were still being sold in Europe and Australia during 2002.

A redesigned, sealed clutch slave cylinder was released in 2001 and should be fitted to all 2001 model STs. (Note there was a recall for some 2001 model STs – check with your dealer to see if this applies to you.) See “Clutch” section below for details.

ST2:
·Lower spec Sachs rear shock replaces the Showa.

But I am not sure when in 2001 that refers to?
I cant see any labels on mine and I dont know how to tell the difference.
I assume they are both very similar in dimensions and that the C spanner consequently fit both?

Does it have a remote reservoir ? I'll bet it's a Sachs - My ST4's a 2001 model and that's a Sachs. Have you looked at the 2000 and 2001 pdf downloads to see if there are any differences there ?

Mark you are bloody amazing!!

Such common sense! and I am supposed to be practical.

Downloaded 2000, 2001 (again) and 2002 just for comparison, it has the reservoir mounted at the top of the assembly, not the remote as on the 2000 bike, so that makes it a Sachs.

Thanks for that Mark!
