Ducati ST2 Clutch Replacement (After 14,000 Miles?)

I have my St in for a major service after some months of storage.

The dealer tell me the clutch needs replacement at a cost of nearly £200.

The blke has only done 14000.

The dealer says this is a commomn Ducati problem.

I am not sure - is it a problem?

14k from a clutch is'nt bad.
If its still working ok.I'm guessing the friction plates are past their wear limit.Outer basket could be worn too.Best change them before they cause damage to the other plates and the drum.
Find out from the dealer what is worn and do it yourself, its a doddle.

Bike: ST2

My ST2 had a new plate pack and basket fitted at about 14000 miles. So it's probably about typical.

Lucky for me the clutch job was done just before I bought the bike, but unfortunatly a few hundred miles after I bought it the centre nut fell off, doh!

If you don't want to do the job yourself I wouldn't go outside the Ducati dealer network or a good independant specialist.

I do agree that fitting the plates yourself is a doddle. You do need to take care to replace all the metal plates in the same order and facing the same way though, as the third from the back of the basket is slightly concave.

Clutch Life

My last clutch plates lasted 8k although they have had some work to do, two trips to the alps in the last two years, lots and lots of hairpins and uphill stuff etc, ah the price of pleasure

I have told the dealer to replace the whole lot. Bit expensive but I dont want a breakdown in Norway in August.

I was just worrried 14K was a little low for a new clutch.

Thanks again for yor advice and time.
