A169 Whitby to Pickering

Has anyone been on the A169 Whitby to Pickering? What an unbelievable 20 miles of road - long sweeping bends, fast straights and lots of hills with hardly any traffic. It's over the moors so you can see a long way ahead with no trees.
Without doubt the best road I've been on in the UK .........so far

The 169 is indeed a fine road, however I prefer the A171 from whitby to guisborough, just a personal choice.

I'll try the A171 Whitby - Guisborough next time. I also did the A171 Scarborough - Whitby Road which was quite good but a lot of traffic. There are so many good roads in that area you're spoilt for choice.
Coming up from London for the weekend I thought I was in heaven.

Haddock and Chips on the dock side in Whitby, then hoof out south to Scarborough on the A171. Another fine bit of road too. Time it right and there isn't much traffic. Try Sunday, late evenings in June.

Ains.

I presume you did this recently in midweek? From now until the end of September all the roads mentioned are absolute 'mares. They are tourist central, wall to wall caravans, honda civics and chavs on their hols. Police presence is very heavy at weekends. TT road mentioned will have high profiling police presence this year, all year. Use the map, take other roads. Make sure bike is 100% and don't speed.

I was out that way yesterday morning and it IS brilliant riding. Had to reflect on how bad it does get though over the next few months. I suppose I'm quite fortunate to have these on my doorstep. If you ever have cause to be here again, drop me a line and I'll join you for a ride.

sorry, just re-read your post, you were here at the weekend. But it is fairly quiet at the moment. Easter weather decimated the holiday trade around the coast so it kept the grockles at home. Glad you enjoyed yourself.

It was cod and chips from the Magpie on the quayside (best I've tasted!) then down the A169 in the pouring rain but unfortunately I was in a car. I'll definitely be back up there on my Hyper and I'll make contact for a rideout.

Cheers
