Thumbs up Abergavenny ...monmouth loop(approx 50 miles)

I`ve ridden this loop for years , on various bikes from CCM big bore rotax to MonterS4R and more recently on HM .
I can only presume that people no longer know about it as bike traffic is getting less and less .If you want a twisty challenging road then this is one for you , it will get you arms pumped up and no old bill or sheep.
Start at Abergavenny Cafe, turn right out of coach park , follow road and go past petrol station , 400 yds later turn right onto B4521.
On the map the road does not look very twisty , but it is .Follow for about 20 miles until B4137 at St Owens Cross.Turn right follow road down to A40 then head towards Monmouth on dual carriageway .
Take second exit for Monmouth(you will go past Monmouth on your RH side) then head towards Monmouth....don`t go into town center but carry straight on towards Rockfield.
Before Rockfield take the left fork onto B4233.This road is more chanllenging as narrower and sharper bends , however after the B4521 you should be warmed up to it .Follow this for about another 20 miles to Abergavenny .Stop for cup of tea and a fag and brag about what a bloody good rider you are .....enjoy!!

PS For all the south wales locals apologies for giving one of your best kept secrets away.

Can't fault it hyper! Come over on a Sunday and there's often a trial (including pre-65) going on at Rockfield to occupy an hour or two.

Tend to give the station in Abergavenny a miss. There are some much nicer places to stop off albeit the resident cow population are less impressed by any bragging you might want to do unless you've got balls the size of a bull.

To stretch it out a bit go for a blast up the A470...better early evening when the test pilots have put their romper suits on for bedtime.

This is just one of a number of good rides around this area. Mark749s and I are out and about every weekend if anyone fancies a ride, We often go from Abergavenny to Llandovery for breakfast on a Sunday morning then on to Builth Wells, Llandrindod Wells to Crossgates for a coffee. If we have plenty of time may go Crossgates to Newtown and back - superb piece of road with a mixture of open sweeping corners and some very tight corners that tighten up on you. Then on to Hereford, Skenfrith and back to Aber or through Hundred Houses, Talgarth and back to Aber.

Anyone interested in a ride out, send me a p.m. and we'll arrange something.

Regards

Clive

I can't vouch for the rest of it but that B4521 is a wonderful little road, we did it heading the other way towards Abergavenny, must admit one of the lefthand bends caught me out a bit, somewhat tighter than I thought on approach, I wound up scrabbling to bleed speed off, not a good idea when loaded up with camping gear and pillion! Got round it OK just drifted very slightly across the white line though, thankfully little or no traffic though.

its a very challenging road my first one tackled
ended up very tired and contemplating giving up riding
but cup of coffee in aber and then riding to TINTERN ABBEY.....
over the Severn Bridge to Gloucester and back home
re inspired me..

Yes its a very twisty road full of surprises and i had traffic behind
me while i negotiated them at 20mph

Now better think about it again and see how far i have come since
that ride........
