Lightbulb Possible to insure bike if you are not owner??

Hello
Is it possible to be insured to ride a bike if you are not the registered owner? Say for instance, if a family member owns a bike that they do not use, but have given permission for you to ride it?

I called 3 different insurance companies today, but they said no way Jose, bike must be registered in your name and you must be the primary user.

Has anybody heard any different?

Ta,
Steve

It certainly is. I insured my wife's Monster that was registered in her name, before she passed her test.

Not sure how simple it would be if you have different addresses though.

The only problem is that unless you combine bikes onto a multi-bike policy is that you can only use your no-claims bonus once (!?!)

Hi Steve.. My experience has been that only the registered owner can insure the bike but the keeper or named rider, can ride it. I went on my mates V5 as the owner of a bike that was really his property and insured it for him for 2 years, but the bike was kept at his address (which I told Carole Nash at the time and gave Post code etc). He was a named rider but was also the primary user and they knew that.
I have since transferred ownership (V5) back to him and he insures it now.

Thanks for clearing that up guys.

Just called Carole Nash, they confirmed that the owner of the bike has to insure it, however there can be a named person on the insurance who uses it/keeps it.

Cheers
Steve
