Longterm Insurance in Europe

Anybody know who will insure us in Europe for 6 months We have tried all the dealers with no success, Ducati 620 MTS from May 15 to 9 Nov. Insurers will only offer 90 days maximum duration without having to return to uk. Anyone any ideas how to get round this? :

insurance europe

thanks for your reply, yes we've tried AA, RAC, Carole Nash, Bennetts et al.
Even MCN advice column doesn't know. So still looking for someone with the knowledge. We can get 3rd party cover only from company in Holland but it's £500 for the 6 months! Isn't it stupid that you can get 90days, come home for a day then get another 90 days- but not 180 consecutive days!
In answer to your other question- we are in Woodbridge.

Yes, it is utterly ridiculous Ken and Maureen.
I live near Malaga and have had awful trouble trying to do things the right way!
If I knew we were going to stay out here I would have changed my reg plate to a spanish one but we´re not now so I have still have english details.
I used my UK insurance for two months and then changed to a spanish company, which was more than twice the price of that which I paid in the UK, WITHOUT cover for theft!!!
I´ll PM you.

Regards,
Richie.

I think you need to get in touch with some of the specialist insurers for this type of thing. I have found holiday policies that used to cover us now specifically exclude even short trips. A recent discussion on DSC brought these options. I have yet to dig into them all but see here:

www.Insureandgo

AtlasDirect

https://www.philipwilliams.co.uk/fra...sp&sectionID=0

Goldcover Insurance Services

I would also talk to the guys that run Globetrotters to see who they advise for their 6 month plus trips.

Rgds,

Rob

I must say i had excatly the same problems, absolutly nobody was interested in doing more than 90days at one time, However... im with Bennets and explained my situation (moving to Spain for 6months) and they said just call back after 90days and they will cover for a further 90days free of charge, with no limit to how many times you call, he did say that the bike needs to be in the UK when you call back and ask for a further cover, even if its here for 1 day!! which is absolutly stupid. So this is my way round it as its only for 6months and after all.... how do they know if the bikes in the UK when you call!??

If you make a claim from abroad they may want to see your travel documents to confirm your sailing dates....
