Insuring a Desmo - Where and How?

Ok trying to find insurance for a desmo seems to be like the preverbial rocking horse droppings, not tried the official ducati one (their online system doesn't work) but at least they list the desmo as a bike you can insure. Everyone I've phoned today has said no due to price. And worse than this, I really need track insurance for it as this is where it will be spending its life for the majority of the time. Can anyone help?

One of the points brought up on the training course was that Ducati Insurance will be covering it. Apparently at the same premium as the 999R but with higher xs??
Track insurance will be a different matter I suspect....

I'm sorry that wasn't very constructive or helpful, but really, are you serious? Best of luck with that one.

As far as normal insurance is concerned, my best guess would be to phone Ducati Insurance. When the 1098 first came out, most insurance companies took ages before they acknowledged it's existience let alone could quote on it. With that for a production bike, I can't see them beng that quick with a limited edition that'll probably only see a couple of hundred in the UK.

Sorry, I don't know. The 999R in question was the "generic" one. Ducati Insurance are using it as the "datum". If you're close to getting the D16, I guess you have an R? If so, then I'd assume from what I was told it'll be the same but the excess will be higher.
I have a trade policy that covers my car, van and bikes so I don't now the specific costs.

I'd suggest that with such a bike as the D16, then "it's good to talk" rather than suss it out on line.

Hi,

I have my 999R and 748R on a joint fully comp policy with Ducati Insurance. The premium is £577 with a £500 excess on the 999. That is with 4-years no claims, 3 points on the licence and one previous accident in last 5 years.

P.S. The policy is underwritten by Norwich Union.
