Best Moto GP Moment?
Is there one moment of Moto GP that stands out for you?
One moment that left you in awe at the skill of these guys?
For me it was 1991 Hockenheim - Schwantz taking Rainey on the brakes, last lap coming into the complex.
Unbelievable.
I think Kevin said "I saw God and braked!"

My Top GP moments
I've only been watching GPs reguarly since 2000, so:
2000 Italian GP - Three way Italian battle for the win. Biaggi, Rossi & Capirossi. VR & Max both crash out towards the end and leave an emotional Loris take the win.
2001 - Philip Island - Mass battle of the strokers results in VR winning from Max by a gnats-you-know-what and taking his first, his only and the last 500cc championship. Magical.
2004 - Welkom, SA - VR switches from Honda to Yam, who everyone knows are not very competetive, and takes the win on debut. I remember a block pass on Biaggi that had me out of my seat and thumping the floor.
2006 - Sachsenring - VR qualifies 12th(I think) and charges through the field to take a blanket win from Hayden, Pedrosa....
2007 - Assen - VR again is nowhere on the grid but charges through the field - again - to battle with Casey and win in those crazy Fiat 500 colours.
Yes, I am a Rossi fan. If you watch any of these races, you will be too :-)

Been watching GP's since the early 80's and there have been so many great races over the years, favourite era has to be the late 80's when Lawson, Schwantz, Rainey and co were in their pomp .
Agree with 'hj' about the 2000 gp at Mugello stunning...
1990 Phillip island, Wayne Gardner on the 500 Honda nearly highsides, breaks the fairing mounts but still manages to stay on and claw his way past Rainey, schwantz, Lawson and Doohan to win...
1983 Sweden. Roberts against Spencer, last race of the year. Spencer diving under Roberts and putting him onto the dirt to win and clinch his first 500cc title.
2008 Laguna, Rossi and Stoner... Lets hope it continues.

And there's more...
Sorry, I had to go out for a curry :-) but now I've thought of some more:
2005 Donington - Standing water of about half an inch meant various racers throwing precious metal down the road at a astonishing rate(Biaggi, first lap, old hairpin). Shakey was 4th on the Roberts KTM for about half a lap. Then VR, KRJR & Barros battled conditions for most of the race before Vale broke them with a couple of laps to go. Fantastic battle.
There are so many others but I would be boring you all...

Good stuff and the thread has jogged my memory.
I do remember the 2001 Phillip Island with VR on the 500.
Maybe I'll try to work out my favourite top ten, once the winter months close in.
I used to love the 500s with their on/off power delivery and particularly liked watching the riders mid field, where the bikes were not as well set up!
I remember being at McCleans (can't remember the year) when Biaggi lost the front-end right in front of us.
The more I watch these guys the more I'm in awe of them!

Wayne Gardner trying to tame the evil NSR500 at Brno and getting spat off the high side - I still have a gold and goose photo in my garage of this moment - NSR sideways, Gardner outstretched vertically above the bike, still holding on to the bars....
Either that or watching Doohan slide the rear of the Rothmans NSR through the stadium complex at Hockenheim c.1992/1993......absolutely awesome and in a class of his own.

I remember watching the old Trans Atlantic races.
Sheene and Roberts battling it out at Silverstone and at one point Bazza overtakes Roberts and gives him the Vs behind his back.
They swapped places just about every lap until Roberts won by the narrowest of margins.
Fantastic stuff.

Niall Mackenzie passing the yanks down Craner Curves and the ensuing cheer from the 70,000 crowd.
Gardner winning in the wet in the last race at Silverstone in 86.
Hearing the Desmosedici for the first time at Donington.
Seen lots on the TV but being there is the only way to really appreciate it,
(except WSB Phillip Island 2001 - Wet does not even come close to describing it).

Just remembered, 2004 British GP, Redgate and hearing the whole field blasting away from the start on the 1st lap. The sound of those 1000s shook the ground!
Fantastic!!

Too many to mention
Been watching the premier class since I was a baby, honestly lots of memories, Mackenzie leading at Donnington breifly was special at the time, I agree with HJ about Rossi at Welkom and I am not part of the Rossifumi, I was fortunate enough to see Spencer in the ****sing rain at Silverstone 1985 win the 250 and then get on the NSR 500 on the same day, the herculean double winning year some say led to the premature ending of his career, it will probably never be repeated and as the great Kenny Roberts says when Interviewed he admitted there was nothing anyone could do even him about Fast Freddie he was just too fast, very underated but one of best ever. It was qute a year Spencer winning Lawson second Sarron third. Gresini won the 250, i will shut up now and do some work.
Cheers Mill
