Some Useful Ducatisti Site User Tips

A few tips to make visiting the site a better and more rewarding experience. Please feel free to add more tips.

Tip One

To catch up on all new posts since you last visited the site in one go, from the home page go to 'New Posts' in the top right of the page and click on it. Hey presto.

Tip Two

When posting links to other sites, you often get a long web address. If you preview this, you can rename this link as anything and so shorten it. The link will still work.

Tip Three

The members/visitors who are on-line can be seen at the bottom of the home page. If you click on the blue link at the top of this list, you can see who is looking at what thread.

More to follow as I think of them.....

Tip Four: Embeding a Ducatisti Gallery Image on your Post

If you want to store an image/photo in the Ducatisti gallery and then link to it in one of your posts, just do the following:

1. Add an image to the gallery first by going to the Ducatisti Gallery and clicking on the 'Upload Photos' link in the top right corner of the page. This link will take you to a page where you can select the specific gallery you want to add your image to and also allow you to browse and select the image from you computer.

2. When you've enventually managed to upload an image, Right Click on the image you want to use with your mouse and select Properties.

3. If you're using Internet Explorer copy the Address: (URL), and if you're using Firefox the address you want is the Images Properties > Location.

4. With the address of you image copied you can now embed/add the image into a post so it appears full size (550px wide) by using this button .

5. When you eventually finish writting your post and click 'Submit Reply' the image should appear like the one below.

(N.B: If you want to add many images to the Gallery in one go you can .zip them into one file and upload that. My advice is to not create a .zip file bigger than 5MB because the server may time out, and please reduce the size of your images to 1024px wide max prior to uploading.)

Tip Five

And another tip, as Moley pointed out to me this morning, if you use the smilies people can judge the tone of your post and are less likely to misinterpret your meaning

Just kidding

Tip Six

If you haven't ever clicked on the 'Quick Links' navigation link that appears at the top right of every page (when you're logged in), try giving it a go. I place all the links to all areas of the site in there for easy reference.

Tip 7 - the search function on the site really does work rather well if you have a problem or question 90% of the time someone else has had it and the very helpfull people on the site have resolved it. Have a read of the previous threads and if they have been of help say thanks

Tip 8 - Remember its a bike site , we all should really get out on the bikes a hell of a lot more.

Never, ever, ever ask questions about oil. It's all been said a thousand times before, and when you ask which brand, everyone say something different so there's no magic make after all.
OK?

Tip 12

Don't even think about asking for opinions about the most suitable colour for a Ducati, for the same reasons as were mentioned about tyres and oils!

Hi all

Can any one out there tell me how to create my own Avtar please as I am now very contious of the fact that I do look a little Pikey as I dont have a picture next to my name. I have one request though can you keep the computer language as simple as possible as I am not the most computer literate of people.

I use this site for avatar sizing. Just put in 60 in the custom box.

Resize Images online

HTH (Hope that helps)

Go via "Quick Links" at the top of the page to "Edit Your Details" and there is a list on the left which includes "Edit Avatar"
