Unhappy Washing Machine Conked

After 10 years super service, my Indesit auto washer expired yesterday. Wife now wants a new one (can you believe it?)

Toying with a Miele, Bosch or Siemens but have no experience as to whether it's worth paying the premium price these command.

No-one got a new one at good price ? (too much to expect ?)

Most of the time, the internal components are made by the same companies...usually Italian.

Or the pump.....less than £20 if you fit it yourself (two to four screws, and two to three hose clips).

And the motor brushes...about £5 max.

If you can afford it go for the Miele, with have customers with 20 year old units and
they are still going strong.
electrolux is also a good premium brand along with LG.
We (home) have a hotpoint run of the mill type and i swear by them...... yes i'm in
the industrial trade

Useful link for cheap parts ................

appliance parts direct spare parts appliance parts direct washing machine parts cooker spares appliance parts direct.

The Bosch Classix range works for me - cheapest of the Bosch range as it's not the latest technology, but also has "less to go wrong"!
In most instances the hi tec expensive models have extra sensing technology to accurately meter the water used according to the load - saves a little on water and electric over the "standard" model. Very good, but since they're often £200 - £300 more expensive, how long to get that extra purchase cost paid back through reduced water and energy charges? Not this decade, for sure!

I, well her really, am going through the same process at the moment, we are throwing out a Hoover machine that is less than 5 years old, it has never washed well from day one and we now have run out of patience with it, that along with a Cannon cooker which again is newer than the washer, but the temperature of the oven is so inconsistant that it ruins food, is also heading for the skip, neither were cheap to buy, more money wasted. :-(

Miele, Miele, Miele. Oh and also consider Miele. Really, there's everything else (often, as others have said, sharing components) and there's Miele. They're not flash, they have virtually no advertising budget, just a family-owned company, very good to its employees, building stuff which is enormously durable and constantly sweeps the board in consumer reviews. They cost more than the oppo but not as much more as you might think, given that they last twice as long.

The number of their appliances I have, it sometimes feels like that!

PS, they have an 'Experience Centre' in Abingdon. So, you go along to check out or maybe measure whatever appliance you're considering. And if you like, you can cook on whatever unit you fancy, dishwash a sample bit of stubborn crockery, or even do a round of washing or tumble drying. Duly convinced, you go to order at the front desk, and they say, we don't actually sell them here, if you go online or look in the brochure you can find somewhere who does. How magnificently cocky is that? It's all very graciously done, and the absence of hard-sell - along with the tell-tale confidence that you'll go away and buy one, without being wrestled onto the dotted line - is deeply impressive. I love Miele, as Imola has divined ...
