Robert Dunlop has been killed in NW200 Practice
RIP Robert Dunlop in NW200 Practice
I'm shocked and gutted as BBC NI have just announced the confirmed death of Robert Dunlop in this evenings practice in NW200. I always thought he would go as his Brother Joey did on a bike, as they both lived and breathed road racing. My thoughts are with his wife and racing boys.

That's really bad, bad news. As always it's the ones left behind you think of, but not what any biker wants to hear. I'm gutted.

Robert Dunlop dies after NW crash
Dunlop survived a major accident on the Isle of Man TT in 1994
Motorcyclist Robert Dunlop has died after suffering severe chest injuries in a crash in Thursday's practice session at the North West 200.
Another Northern Ireland rider, Darren Burns, suffered a suspected broken leg and concussion in the accident, but is said to be stable in hospital.
The accident happened in the 250cc qualifying as the riders approached the Mathers Cross Section of the course.
Dunlop's brother Joey was killed in a racing accident in Estonia in 2000.
The riders were travelling at speeds of about 160 miles per hour when the accident happened.
Dunlop's bike appeared to seize and he went over the handlebars.
He was rushed to the Causeway Hospital in nearby Coleraine, where he died from his injuries shortly after 2200 BST.
Burns was following behind and was unable to avoid hitting the Ballymoney rider.
Dunlop had sustained serious injuries in a crash at the Isle of Man TT in 1994, but he recovered and returned to action soon after.

I was lucky to meet Robert Dunlop whilst at the Ulster GP one year.
A brilliant bloke and always willing to give you his time.
I can say I am gutted and shocked.
RIP

That's just awful. The family must be devastated and I feel really sad for them.

Really saddened to hear this, I met Robert at 2006 Southern 100 races in IOM at the presentation evening. This will put an atmosphere on the whole event, I was at the TT when David Jefferies lost his life, similar scenario.
R.I.P Robert and Joey,
Thanks for the skill and entertainment you have given us through your racing careers.

One of my students has just told me about Roberts death.
It is a very sad time for his family and friends and indeed the sport. Robert was a character on and off the bike who battled on to race after serious injury at the TT. Memories will live on of a man who loved the sport and fought against the odds to continue.
RIP
