848 A great stead for the Bike Safe course!
Just thought I would post this, slightly poor, picture of my bike (the white one without the silly stickers! ) another bike safe chap & and his 600 triumph and our instructor Phill.
The day was great and Phill was the absolute business in my books and after having a rough time with the law in the past I will say he is a credit to the force and single handed managed to sway my opinion. He gave me some real inside tips and genuine Do's and Dont's on the road. Also no slouch on that bike! There arent any chicken strips on his tyres but may be some scratches on his exhaust!
The 848 got a lot of attention and a fair few wishes of "good luck getting round the course" and "hope you dont need to call the AA"... cheaky f*kers!

I did a bikesafe a couple of years ago in barnstable on my Z750. The nice policeman told me to ride as I normally would. Trouble was, I had to keep slowing down for him to catch up. When he put his blue on to get me to stop, we pulled over in a car park. He was shaking when he came over. He asked me if I normally rode like that. I said well yes. He said he admired my honesty but he could not condone 120MPH on the open road around traffic. He said he had to nail the Beemer K1200 to keep up and was scraping both panniers to try to catch me. He said I can see that you definately know how to handle a bike but that I needed to slow down. They promissed me at the beginning of the day that we would not be ticketed what ever we did so I was having a bit of fun (but not taking any risks). I have passed by IAM Advanced test and was the Secretary of Plymouth Advanced Motorcyclist at the time lol...
Still got the certificate. What a great day.

just read this after my above post...Kev..that is poetry mate!! on a z750 too hehehe! Keep livin the dream mate...I had a copper in front of me on a Beemer last summer in Lincolnshire..He was 'making good progress'..so i stayed with him on the twisties..When he saw me in his mirrors he began to ride a little more, 'competitively' and started getting his exhausts down (mind you they are only 5mm from the road even when its on the centre stand) then his panniers...Havin a little giggle to meself i started hanging off, styling it up and giving it the knee down..as we hit the A1 at the Little Chef he just shook his disapprovingly but there wasnt really a lot he could do as he'd just spent the last 10 minutes breaking the national speed limit..Shame i didnt have an on-board coz id' have reported him 1-0

Where did you do your course? I noticed you have London as your location and I have just booked a Bikesafe run from the Ace cafe on 21st April.

I did mine from the Tallyho in Birmingham, brilliant 2 days, good positive feedback. Progress on the roads were as high as one would want to go without taking the ssip.
But.... returning home after the first day, my ZX9R spat me off in a spectacular highside which left me on crutches for 5 weeks ish. In the meantime I bought the Duke phoned up the bikesafe coordinator and he said yes come along on Sunday such a date and we will slot you in for the second day. No extra charge just a ribbing as to why it spat me off. Full termi on the Duke as well.
Worthwhile course.
Phil

When I did my bike safe course, I spent 3 hours before hand, putting Sophia back to fully 100% plod friendly legal.....
When I turned up, the first thing the PC said was quote "wow what a beautiful bike...., but why the **** haven't you got termis on it.....it sounds bloody awful with the standard cans strangling it...."
Since then - we have become good mates...!!

But if you hadda left the Termis on you'd probably have got a nicking and not ended up mates..so it all ended happily in the end..

I also did my bike safe course at the Ace Cafe on my old 749. One of the blokes on the course turned up on a big Harley and started to show off in front of plod and attempted a wheelie in the car park. Yes, he did fall off the back and everyone started laughing including plod.
All the instructors were good and I learnt a few things. When I was leading the group on the A40 at the correct speed one of the instructors keep pushing me to go faster and eventually I was doing almost 90. A great day!

I also did my Bikesafe at the Ace in the end. Good bunch of chaps, learnt a few things, had a good day, and well worth the £30 (especially as it includes lunch at the Ace Cafe).
Pic below is of the ZX10R the Policeman taking us out was riding!!
(face covered because although he agreed to the photo, I didn't check if he minded me posting online!)
955SP... I seem to be following your route through the whole biking experience.... I hope that doesn't extend to dropping the bike down the road!!

Good stuff. I've booked my Bikesafe course in Dorking on 8th June and after reading this I'm really looking forward to it.
Now to decide if I should take the 749 or the more sensible option
Cheers,
Ed
