After your exploits at Pembrey surely an off road course would be more appropriate

Wink

Nothing wrong with my off road riding - I kept it shiny side up all three times!!!

If I could corner better/faster I wouldn't have been forced off the circuit the twice the grass cutting wasn't due to pilot error and I probably wouldn't have made the pilot error that resulted in the third excursion!!

I may even take up super moto - my 996 obviously has an affinity for grass

Mmm what can I sell?
Got any spare bits of carbon that would fit an 800 monster.....

Did I not read you had a new bike?

Was that you with the gold wheels? Did you get on the grass on the exit of the last turn leading onto the start finish straight? If so I remember you, I was on the black DD bike with the 916 fairings. I had black leathers, helmet and boots.

I had a look at the website and it seems they have bikes for hire. If my bike has been delivered by then (it should be, if I can get the wedge together), do I ride it and risk dropping it, or do I hire one of theirs, with stabilisers and all?

Or will I not drop it?

(sorry if this is a stupid question it's all quite new to me this track malarkey)

That is how I managed to join you all on Level 1. Get in there quick and phone them before everyone else though!

No-one can give you a guarantee of not dropping it... anything can happen. When I did Level 1 in April a Kawasaki ZX10R was being repaired from an off the previous day, and a chap dropped his bike in the last session of our Level 1 course (first lap cold tyres). I think both of those were pushing on though.... it just depends how much you want to push yourself. Who are you insured with? (eBike cover you for the day for £60, and it is definitely more worthwhile doing it on your own bike).

I was worried about taking my sparkly Monster on the course, but I needn't have.

If you take it easy you will still learn a lot and your bike should be relatively ok. I think you learn more from using your own bike - you learn its (and your own)limits better and I think you are less likely to overdo it.

I was on an 848 with about 1,000 miles on the clock.... the only 1,000 miles I have ever done on the road (excluding DAS). As Singltrack said, initial nerves go when you get other people to follow (that helped me anyway... I figured if they can go round at that spee, so can I... then you start to find your own pace)... and they make very clear what they want you to achieve.

Thanks.
Still deciding which bike to go for.
Either a Classic GT or Sport BP.
Insurance is ridiculous either way, perhaps I'll start a separate thread for advice on that.

Thanks for the help about cornering school, I'll see if I can get there,

Ravi

Level 2 was fully booked but I think they can still squeeze people in!

that was me -yellow 996 with gold Marchesinis- the instructor on the black 749 came around inside me, missed a gear, ran wide and forced me out. I decided safest option was to sit the bike up and end up on the grass. The instructor did have the decency to apologise after the session and no damage to me, my bike or my confidence so no problems.

That was the first of my off road excursuions for the day.

Sorry my carbon bits are only suitable for the superior S2R version!

I have booked onto L2 on the Monday. (Thanks Suze.) I can't do the Tuesday.

I still have the Monster but I do have a new bike, and I might be on that one. Wait and see! (It's not a Ducati though!).
