How many miles before knee down

How many miles on the clock of a new bike before you got your knee down.

Got my new 1098 last Thursday, and with 214 miles on the clock got my knee down on this bike for the first time last night.(closed private road etc  ) First proper ride out on my own. Did the first 100 mile to scrub in tyres, few miles pottering round town to and from work, ride out with the misses on the back then last night on my own.

Ere..... 170, do ya wanna borrow a set of my old 'worn out waffer thin' sliders that i've kept until you pluck the courage up.....

Only joking buddy.....

I remember when I first tried, was a really stange experiance when you feel your touch down......
Trouble is the roads are not really the best place these days.....trackdays are the best bet, you get to build confidence without worrying about other vehicles, cycles. kid, horses, tractors, diesel, buses and such like coming towards ya...

Cheers XP I'd need a set of 'scrubbed' tyres as well though! No good having GP knees and 2" chicken strips round the edge of the tyres, have seen this though

Saying that, the off side is pretty much scrubbed in probably only about 5mm left, I think due to roundabouts The near side is a different story though

A guy at work was organising a works track day at Northolt Aerodrome, thought about it and then thought about dropping the bike so bottled it. Would love to do one though 8)

You'd be suprised at how confident you'll become on a well organised trackday buddy, but like you I would rather use a track prepared bike rather than my nice shinny road bike for that piece of mind, expensive day if you bin your own bike....

Thats what you wanna do chap, treat yaself to a Race school day...much safer...and I know you know what I mean.....

XP

Ps. I'd be up for that chap if you wanted to go....I haven't been on the track for a few years now and it would be good to have a blast round again...

I've done about 15k on one and 7k on the other and have got my knees, elbows and head down on both. Is my d*ck the biggest?

Go on you know you want to.

It's the best place to learn how your bike performs in safer surrondings than the local roundabout if you see what i mean.

I would be up for one, rather someone else’s bike, it’s purely down to cost…anti bike Mrs etc… but I have heard that the excesses on such days are £500+ and that's gets charged even if you break something on the bike worth 50p

And I do know what you mean

Yes, sounds like it's big for a Gecko, did you cause much damage to the bike while you were sliding down the road then?

Cheers mate, the bike is fantastic. Done the knee thing before, was nice to do it for the first time on the new bike. Getting on with it really well. Never had as much confidence/feeling with my 999, took a while to come with that bike.

Nope, R&Gs took the brunt of it and saved the Duchess. The Vespa took a bit more of a battering, so bodywork was required (about £1,200) but the third party paid).

I broke off my tail, but as we know, they grow back. Broke/fractured alltogether six ribs, one vertebra, one ulna and a knuckle. Not easy being green...

Yeah, I was chatting to a guy I've had a ride out with from Box Hill. He went on a track day with R6's. Said the bike was a heap, really bad judder when braking, came into the pits they changed the discs but still the same. That coupled with the large excess he said the day was spoilt as he was just as petrified about coming off as much as he would have been if on his own stead!

Sorry, stealing with original thread here . Back to the knee down question
