998 to 999R F03
Bought some 999 F03 crankcases of fleabay for my next project, as the guy selling them said " The cases are in perfect condition and ready to build your road engine into" which is slightly misleading as the oil pipes from cases to the oil cooler are push in (O ring) fittings and held with a plate where as standard are screw type fittings ! emailed the seller but he was not helpful , searched 999R PDF parts manuals but nothing is listed only screw type, can anyone shed some light on where I can get these pipes/fittings
The other problem is there is no provision for a neutral switch

Hi Phil the F03 designates them being race engine parts hence no neutral switch, wouldn't worry about it too much mines never worked you just get used to feeling for it!! as for the oil lines your probably best off contacting one of the race teams thats fettled these, don't think you'll find a manual for it.
Why are you changing the cases are yours damaged? just thinking the race engines are often quite different and this might not be a simple swap job.
Clive.

The oil cooler lines are the better option it just a diameter with an 'O' ring groove. A groove also for the clamping plate. Makes for quick changing and equally as reliable.
You could get the ends made then just braze onto your cooler pipes. Better option than the standard setup.

Was down with Chris at CJS Racing South West - Ducati cylinder heads tuning gas flow specialist and today we stripped 998s crank cases, washed and cleaned all parts and started assembly in to F03 cases, took a fair bit of time as gear train, crank and selctor hub all had to be shimmed to fit new cases which involves each seperate part eg geartrain being placed in the cases then cases assembled , torque bolts and check for end float,then disassemble measure shims replace shims to get correct tolerances and assemble and do the same for crank etc untill Chris was happy with everything

Forgot to add when swapping crank cases there are a few other parts need and will add I find what is needed 1st part is 417.6.0829A which is a crankcase bolt that fits between openings for barrels as it is a smaller dia than the 998 due to the larger dia of the opening (104mm). The other part is a blanking plug for the neutral detent spring unit, as this not used on the F03 cases but cant find part number yet

Got 999R heads that I want to use so going for a 1078 using 104mm barrels
Them heads would make a great addition to your track bike

Had to make some thicker base gaskets so had to use the slower way of making them as no hole saw available.
Bolted plates together then Marked out and center punched then drilled in stages 3mm 6mm 8mm then 10mm
filed off tags then filled till final diameter fitted over barrel, made cardboard template so just need to cut outside and file

Phil, the 03 RS parts list i have shows an potentiometer/sensor assembly in the detent gallery. No blanking plug.
I have some F07 cases here that appear to have the same plug in them as the lambda take offs in the headers? Not sure if the threads the the same tho. Might be worth a try.

Thanks Nelly for info
F03 potentiometer/sensor assembly £1000
Chris found a plug
Now need to find a 90tooth belt ?
Any other Ducati models use a 90tooth. Belt width is a strange 21mm(13/16) pitch is 9.5mm (3/8)

Not that i can find Phil. 999 is 89 as is the FO7. 1098 is 88.
The RS/FO belts are different to the road belts in some way ..... they have green writing but are still 89. They are 23mm wide.
21mm is stock 'stretta width.

Had no luck with finding belts as Gates make them specific for Ducati and they use a 10mm pitch
So had a word with chris and we may have to alter the idle pullies Diameter

After a bit of thought anyone know what belt a 1098 uses as it's a similar bore and stroke
1098 = 64.7mm 104mm bore
1078 = 63.5mm 104mm bore

88 teeth, 21mm wide. Pitch appears to be 10mm, but then so do the other belts. Don't have a pulley i can get an accurate measure off.
