Red face Washed 749s Now won't start

I can't start my 2005 749s. It seems to have a spark and fuel is flowing but just keeps turnig over until battery gets flat.I must confess I did use a jet wash to clean the swinging arm [I KNOW ..I KNOW] and thought I kept the water away from electrics.I have checked all the fuses and these seem O.K.The only thing I can think is that the water has gotten some where it should not be...any one got any ideas ......apart from don't use a jet wash!!!!!!!
Cheers Marc

worth while checking the coils for output, if not, spray everything with WD40 and hope for the best.

try the imobiliser loop around the ignition - take the key cover off and wiggle the loop to see if it starts, mine does this now and then if i soak it too hard with the hose pipe when rinsing.

Relay down behind the battery box renown for getting the weather in there go and buy one first about £5.00 so you can replace it then weather isolate it in a plastic bag or finger of a nitrile glove.

So its fairing side off battery out battery box out heat shield off and its in there it needs its postion inverting also.

Thumbs up .

I used to get this a lot on my first 749 - it was nearly always down to the large connector at the bottom - wd40 and then make sure that it is well protected.

Just as a note if taking the battery out etc when replacing make sure you do not nip any wires on the wiring loom. My previous garage did that and it cost them a new loom and man hours!

I use a power jet on mine but only at distance so it is using mist and never directly towards radiators front on or towards electrics from rear. I am getting on for 18k miles so must be doing something right

I owned an 03 bike and had a bike problem once with the bike and water. Basically the front cylinder coil is exposed and can be exposed over time to water. Common fault but if yours is an 05 it may be the revised model where I think the problem was fixed. Could be this - just a thought. Adam

Thanks, but I think the problem is fuel related.....I have a spark and the fuel pump is working... Although I have checked the injector relay and it seems to be working fine.... really running out of ideas now (

Smile .

As was also said it could be the ignition coil, I had mine replaced under warranty and mine is a 2005 bike.

But now it works again

If it was the ignition coil would I still be getting a spark?

Quite possibly with a plug out of the head, the spark can break down anywhere in the HT circuit once you add compression to the scene, increase of pressure increases resistance (I think) which can make a weak spark fail under compression but you could see a nice spark when tested to earth.

I can see a spark when I have taken the plug out. Also poured a little petrol in to bore and it fired up straight away, so there must be a good spark??????
