Question 50mm system on a 996

Scored a full 50 mm termi system off of ebay tonight and wondered what I would need to fit it. New larger gaskets for the header pipes I guess and a new Eprom. Anything else and anyone got an Eprom that they no longer need?

I would think the gaskets would be the same, as where the pipe meets the head is not changed I think the manifolds are only different at the exit end where they meet the header pipe.

Not sure if the 50mm Eprom is any different from that used with a 45mm open pipe? but you probably should get the fuelling altered to get the most benefit.

I'm thinking, perhaps, letting the engine breath a bit easier and a PCIII???

I've got big pipes on mine. She's been jiggered about with her electronic computery thingies - but she hasn't been opened up to breath easier or treated to a PCIII and a good Dyno session - which I think is the next thing to do...

Good point DD, I suppose the manifold holes will be the same just the pipe welded on will be 50mm.

Might be time to invest in one of those FIM chips.

It's got a foam filter over the bellmouths but it's not a common name one so I think I will invest in a JHP over the next couple of weeks. Strangely enough it ran beautifully yesterday in the warmth of the day. Maybe it's set up to run on Italian type ambient air.

This isn't the correct way to link internally to a thread on this site (but it's the best I can do) Approximate fuel tank capacity and range of 996, 998, 999 and 1098? but 998gsb on this thread, told me he is using a bmc air filter - he's also got a PCIII - the combination of the two he reckons is giving him an extra 6 RWBHP on his 998. I looked up the filter - about £160 'ish which doesn't sound cheep to me - but I'm thinking of letting my 998 breath easier (she's got a full system 60mm Termi) then investing in a PCIII and getting some proper mapping by Dynojet to make it all sweet...

Hadn't noticed until now David. Sign of wasted time eh?

This is a pic of another system we bought off of ebay last week. It's only a half system and as we hoped it's 45 to 50. Didn't ask the question to the buyer cos we didn't want to alert him to the fact that the link pipe alone might be worth more than his original start price. So I'm gonna fit this on first. It's a JHP stainless I think, not titanium, which would have been an added bonus. I then have the option of fitting the quieter Termis or even the stock cans this way, so the full 50 mm system, which has yet to arrive, may be surplus to requirements.

Oh it cost 210 quid p&p. Bargain I think. Only thing missing are a few springs, use the old ones obviously and a collet from the c/f heat shield. Anyone got an extra/ know where I can get one?

Or, you could fit the cans from the 50mm termi system to the JHP mid-pipe, if you prefer the Carbon look (and weight) .............

Yes Tim, there are a few options. Seeing as I ride two up the weight difference ain't really a consideration but the look is. Might seem odd with stainless cans. It's all your fault anyway. You pointed out the bulge in the link pipe and I've been obsessing about it ever since.

Just been reading about Eproms and it seems neccessary to fit a new dedicated chip to save the bike running seriously lean. Obviously Ultimap is the one to go for but I've just won a JHP 748r chip off of ebay for a 50 mm half system and foam filter. Reckon they make about the same sort of horsepower so we'll see. Got the dyno run in a couple of weeks. Should be interesting and possibly depressing.

Are you sure this is compatible? surely the 748R has different injectors? but even if it is compatible don't go bouncing it off the limiter!.....
