DIY - Ducati Sidestand Modification

Just found this forum. Its great to see a UK based one at last. So here's my starter for 10.

Up to 99 they had the auto retract jobby. Then from 2000 (I think) to 2003 they had the one where the bike would not run with the stand down. What a pain.

There is a proprietary wiring loom add on that costs about £25 to let the bike run with stand down. However, you can do an even better job for a fraction of the cost (£3). See attached Word file. The first part is from a Monster owner who pointed me the way in the first place and the remainder is my further observations in integrating the wiring mod into the existing wiring loom making it almost impossible to detect.

The result will give you the ability to run the engine with side stand down and the bike in neutral. As soon as you select a gear with stand down you loose the neutral light and it will chop the ECU.

Hang on, you mean you couldn't start the bike without being on it, stand up? What about warm-up time? What were they thinking?!
Still, must just be a switch to be shorted, surely?

Very clever! I've heard of mods like this before but first time I've read about it. My 2002 748 could definately do with it! Thanks for joining us Billy!

Yes you can, but the downside is there is then nothing to stop you riding off with the stand down.

So it then becomes a safety issue whereas before it was just a pain in the backside.

I've just bought the sidestand by pass loom off fleabay. Haven't fitted it yet, but it uses the same amperseal connectors as are on the bike already, and looks very professionally made - just like OE fitting. Theres only 3 leads to plug - takes longer to remove the faring panels!!!!!

You can also do this mod for about 50p. Cut piece of paperclip, place u-shaped bit into sidestand switch and gaffer tape up.

With regards to the suicide stand of the earlier models, you can get a plate from the newer style ducatis and replace the plate on the old ones. Part no. is 82912602A and it retails about £2.50 to £3.

At risk of becoming a broken record
