Jeez, you guys can't be let out on your own, can you?!?! When you're not running out of fuel, your batteries are flat...

I'm pretty sure I've seen somewhere that Colditz is now a B&B or a youth hostel, so you could have overnighted there.

Edit: BBC story

You are quite right Paivi - part of the Castle has been turned in to a Youth Hostel, and part of it is now private residential apartments.

I've really enjoyed reading this thread, thanks for posting it Gav.
Your ramblings are better than most of the bike mag journo's.
The pictures that you chose really gave a feel for the trip, illustrating the text perfectly IMO.

Dave the header tanks on the 748-----998's sit on a spigot that pushes into a rubber gromet, this gromet is to fat so that when the plastic tank expands the gromet is squashed which causes the vibration of the frame to be transmitted to the plastic tank after a while they split or fracture.
The cure is to slim down the gromet allowing more room for expansion, or keep buying new tanks!

As usual Gav a great write up..........your position of I Famosi Quattro PR & Media guru has been, once again, fully justified

To echo Gav's sentiments, great trip, great company

Wot Mr R said: a fascinating story!

What I want to know is how on earth you managed to travel so light? I saw only some small tail-packs. You must have needed to take clothes and shoes at the very least. I take it you risked travelling without any tools! When I look at the bulging panniers and tank bag I had for 6 days in Yorkshire/Scotland...

Obviously the "toothbrush and gold card" style of touring....

Not at all Moto!

We each had a Kriega R35 Backpacks and I had a Ventura System fitted on my 998 - As for tools, well we made a list and each person brought those items with them so we didn't duplicate....

Wow! I know those Kriega backpacks have a very good name, but it's a long way to go with weight on your back. You're a bit younger than me, though!

Well Moto the Kriega's more than live up to their name, you honestly don't feel them when they're on.

As for being a bit younger than you.........we range from 38 to 51 years old, but you'll have to guess who is what

I'd hazard a guess that you're not the 38-year-old one...
