Riding abroad and budgets

Hey up ducatisti, so what sorta money would you take to ride to Italy, Riding over 2 days, then 5 days there and 2 days back?? any suggestions?

I think i have about £800 so far maybe over £1200 by the time i get to go!

should that be enough? it will just be for fuel and for 2 over night stops? i think it sounds plenty dont you??

God man, are you staying at the Ritz Carlton?

I presume you're including your hotel bill, tolls, fares and fuel (liquid of both types)

£1200 ought to be OK, it all depends on where you eat, what you eat and what/how much you drink.

Still with your chat up lines you'll be able to find a wealthy girl and live as a gigolo.

Going down through france they have fantastic Formula 1 hotels at the outskirts of most cities and I can't recommend them highly enough. They have no staff (automated booking system with codes & the jacks clean themselves when you get out) so costs are very cheap. No frills but very handy when covering miles rather than seeing the country.

Paivi put a post about this awhile a go in one of the WDW threads - seem to remember that it was about £27 but I may be wrong - sure the Queen of Art Gecko will be along at some point soon to correct me!!

Oh and Ollie- I reckon that'll be plenty - I was gonna take about £500/£600 quid plus a charge card for hotel bills and fuel...but depends what you gonna do when we get there - when I was the gofer for a race team - we got invited to a party in a brothel in Austria, after racing at Oestereichring and en route to Brno (all of the GP Paddock was there!!!) and a danish mechanic who shall remain nameless blew his life savings in there in one night.... - still he came out a happy boy!!!

Jeez Ollie, do I need a visa to visit your planet?

Two overnighters at about 30-50 euros per room (Ibis, F1, Accor, etc). Meals about 20-30 euros per night (incl wine), petrol you can work out yourself, tolls probably around 50 euros each way (if you're taking the Mont Blanc tunnel, that's additional 28 euros return or 25 one way), the most expensive Breil/Ducati one 300 euros, a present for the gecko 20 euros.... Remember, you're on a bike, so you can't do that much shopping, unless you ship the stuff home. I had to do that last autumn after my off, when I could no longer lift the panniers; emptied them into a couple of wine boxes from the hotel and sent them home. Took just a couple of days, 10kg box was about 50 euros, so not hugely expensive, nor particularly cheap, but I had no choice. Would do that again, as it was nice to travel with empty panniers.

Take a credit card, though, not cash. You can withdraw cash from most ATMs with your switch card, providing it's a maestro/cirrus one. Small charge (about £1 for £100, so still a viable alternative to carrying cash. Unfortunately, such a gathering will get the pickpockets there, too.
