Touring on a Ducati 748?

Hi dook riders, fans and enthusiasts!
I'm just about to buy a 'new' bike, I previously owned a 2000 748sps and loved it to bits but unfortunately due to redunancy she had to go But not to linger I'm looking to buy another but the one thing I didn't do was touring on her.

Some friends and myself are doing a 10 day tour of europe hopefully between 300-400 miles a day (maybe more on the 300 side). Now I do remember when I went to the NW200 my wrists ached when I arrived and sort of made the last part of the journey uncomfortable, but whats your thoughts on 10 days of about this mileage? I would consider myself a huge ducati fan but I don't want my 10 day trip spoiled by aching wrists again.

Basically on one side I say "bugger it, you don't do this everyday, get the dook and enjoy it all on the bike you actually want to do it on" and the other side saying "this could end up in tears, get a cbr 600 or something and ensure you enjoy the whole trip.....just not on the bike you want".

So whats you thought? Any tips, tricks or tales to make my mind sway on the dook (becuase thats what I would really love to do it on). Anyways I think you get the picture

Oh and does anyone know if there is going to be a 848 next year? I heard on the grapevine the 1098's tank has "1098/848" stamped on it?

Cheers

Was told couple of weeks ago by dealer the 848 will be first shown at Milan show and should be over here by end of year.

Bike: '98 Ducati 900SS FE

748...lovely Or, you could grab yourself a 900SS
You seem to have two criteria to consider,

a) you would prefer a Duke more than a CBR...

b) covering high milage in (relative) comfort.

I rode my 900SS down to Malaga last June and suffered no real discomfort at all. Obviously, as with any sports orientated bike, the arse tends to feel a little sorry for itself after about 400 miles but thatīs not soley a Ducati trait.
The SS was comfy, reliable (come rain or come shine) easily fast and torquey enough with the added bonus of an amazing soundtrack and looks. Say no more
If I compare the SS with the FZR600R I had before. I did the same trip on the Yam and the Duke was no less comfortable. The meaty midrange of the Duke though made it so easy to ride. On the open A roads, 3rd and 4th were all I needed most of the time whereas I was up and down the gearbox on the Yam like a madman. Great on a track maybe but became a little tiresome on a long haul.
Whether you chose to keep the SS after your touring is up to you. You might even prefer itīs less extreme tendencies.
Just my 10 pence worth
Hope you enjoy your trip. I canīt wait for my next tour!

Richie.

Bike: Ducati 998s Mono Fi

We've just come back from WDW in Misano on the bikes - in the group were 2 1098s, a 749, a 996, a 998 and a 750ss - we were doing 450/550miles per day with no real problems although last 200 miles coming back was a killer - but we had done 1200kms that day!!!!!

Rear our road trip diary - I Famosi Quattro Present WDW live from Misano.....thread.

Also there is an 848 - we've seen it at the Factory - they showed it to us by mistake!!!!! Looks like a 1098, but with a wet clutch.

300 miles a day on a 748 - easy - no problem at all.
