Prior to my crash at Mallory, I did 3 consecutive laps on my DD 600 monster (51ish bhp) all 59.5-59.8 (and that was in fast group on a trackday).
As the thumb timer on translogic dash (thanks to Wilf for the suppy & install) fitted to my bike keeps running having a few in a row ensured I was in the 59s, and not pressing it too early etc. That said since the crash I have only managed a 1.01.
Goes to show what a does of worry can do when it gets in the mix. I also dont get all the way round my tyre anymore. But I will sort that out soon enough!

Don't worry about your times.. just enjoy.. smooth is quick!
I agree with some of the others that low 50s are achievable on a 748S with us mere mortals on board.. Bike capable of sub 50secs or under with a God on board!
My pb lap on a GSXR 600 was only 1.2 sec down on my 996SPS (52.9 & 51.7)
GSXR 750 (51.8) and not tried the 1098S yet.
Anything less than 55secs is very respectable me thinks

748 sp
managed to drag the "old whore" round in 50.2 secs with numberplate still attached... 3 things to remember...
1. on my r6 race bike the quickest i went was a 52 dead - r6 is now sold and have bought a 749R - yet to go round brands, only jerez "winter testing" hehe :-)
2. i was racing niall mckenzie on his gsxr750... good laugh he is, he took the **** out of my old bike (i pointed out it was more classic with the cagiva style logo etc etc lol)
3. i crash a lot in my quest for the limit, about 50 / 50 whether the bike survives a track day

Last time out at Brands on a stock 848 I believe my best time was still in excess of 60 secs, probably around 63-65. And that was my best.
On the day Rizla Suzuki turned up with John Reynolds and Mr Wantanabee (spelling?)
On a pair of standard (I asked) GSXR 1000s they were creaming around well in the sub 50s, maybe 48s. John was teaching the new rider the circuit.
I guess I am just not worthy

A few years ago I raced MZ250's and took mine round Brands Indy in 1.04.
I was far from the quickest though a few lads were dipping well into the low-ish to mid 50's...!! Not bad for 20 year old, 30 bhp, eastern block commuters...!!
Mind you they do run proper race tyres, I had a set of Michellin Inters and WOW they are sooooooo good compared to road tyres. Got my rear-sets down at Lydden Hill circuit round the hairpin..!!
But as said before, it's a trackday, just enjoy it, learn something from every session and you will go faster...!!

The bike if set up well is capable of 50sec'ish but that would be with a VERY quick and capable rider.
I've done Brands on an RVF 400 (60Bhp) in 55.50secs and 52.9secs on a GSXR 600 (105Bhp).
Having said that on a 916SPS best I've managed is 51.7secs but that bike is capable of 48secs.
Its all about the rider, tyres, set up really. A respectable and generally decent quick lap is around 55secs on ANYTHING for us mere mortals!

i can get round in 1.03 on a chilly/dry/sunny day on my DD bike (583) and i'm normally near the back of the grid.
this year's target was to get below the minute but i think that will roll over to next year now
never mind

Nowt wrong with 1.03sec when you have what, about 55hp and a 160Kg'ish bike??
Probably nearer 60secs on an RVF 400 and high 50's on a GSXR600 or R6.. Respect
I'm sure you'll break the 1min next year, just gotta miss you braking point and realise that you actually can brake there next lap!

Harrie
I managed to do 1m3's then got down to 1m2's and eventually got into low 1m1's chasing down 2 riders.
I reckon i could get into late 59's but i haven't the goolies to pin it in and out of paddock hill. or out of clearways....prob after seeing/following Matt get ejected out of his seat
can i have a tow in 2009 ..please please

I think 57.5's is the quickest I went on the 583, but as you saw mate, I dont think there is much left after that for a 583 to be honest.
That was the closest I got to crashing all season by myself, loads of people kept jumping off in front of me though trying to catch me off guard
I think on a class A bike 54's may be possible, which is strange because I was looking at the lap times from 2007 earlier and it says that 51's were winning formula 600 races in may 2007 in good conditions. Now I would say that to win a formula 600 race you would need to be doing 48-49's. So who knows about the 748, I dont think a road bike is capable of less than 51's or even 52's given the weight of the bike but maybe with a proffesional rider on board it may break the 50's but I doubt it.
I think in race trim with the suspension fully sorted, one could break the 50 barrier with the right rider on it.

I dont know the average of the bikes but my class B bike weighs 166.5kg, has 50.8bhp and 38 ft/p of torque.
I dont know about class A bikes but i imagine the front ones are about the same weight if not lighter and some have seen 65bhp.
