Question How quick can a 748S go around Brands?

Did a track day at Brands and was holding my own in the intermediate group. A chap who timed me said I was going around in 1:03-1:04. So what do people reckon a 748 is capable of?

P.S I'm not in any way indicating that I would ever get near such a time but I'd still like to know

As a point of interest although I can't answer your question..........

Lap Record: Brands Hatch Indy - 45.800s; Brands Hatch GP - 1m 25.728s

Well .. that's a bit difficult to answer and is very subjective. Track knowledge, bike setup, experience ... lots of factors.

I reckon you could easily see 52's though.

Ron Haslam (namedropper!) told me that when they first got hold of their raceschool Fireblades, just by changing from standard tyres/suspension settings to race slicks/adjusted suspension he could knock 12 (yes, twelve, not 1.2)seconds off a lap of Donington .... so trying to judge times on your roadbike against times set by 'dedicated' track bikes is a bit harsh ....

Aaaaaaargh - before there's an onslaught of corrections, I think I used '05 track times below - young Mr Rea has since done a 1min 25.235sec. Anyway - not supposed to be a definitive statement - just a comparison for a bit of fun!

Bike: 2006 Monster S4Rs

Clint was doing 51s (maybe lesS) at Brands on an 800 80bhp Monster-derived race bike. Slick front.

Bike: Demosedici RR

my best times round brands indy...

748S mono (2001 model) supercorse's 120/180, hot sunny day, suspension set up but stock parts. 52.8 sec.

748 RS , 853cc, supertrick with every flash part you can think of thrown at it with dunlop slicks, hot sunny day : 51.1 sec.

was it really worth the extra money for the RS ???? yes, loved it! but it is wasted on me.

(These are my BEST ever times, not what i do every lap!!!)

Well, that's kind of deceptive really. Because that 800 will be a fair bit lighter than 748 and I reckon, at a guess, would make more torque. Horsepower sells bikes, torque wins races ...

And the brakes on that 800 are FAR better than anything you got on a 748

Oh really? I thought you'd gotten them from somewhere else!

So very low 50's are achievable on a 748

Thanks for that. I can see I have a long way to go before I'm really using the bike anything like it's capable of. Still that's the fun isn't it

Tony, did that 748RS belong to Butch? I've never seen it running but what a bike! I think it's an 890 now.

Butch has an 890 that used to be a 748R if that's the bike you mean. He's not had an RS to my knowledge. Wilf has. And so has Chris Wood, not sure if he sold it before heading home to Adelaide.

Grahame's son Chris has put that 890 through it's paces and it goes alright. He set some decent times at Guadix on the baby R too, he was flying. Though Grahame has sold that now. Grahame will be on a 675 soon enough which will be a very good bike!

The good thing about knowing that is when you feel you're not going to make the corner you know the bike is capable of it so you chuck it in anyway.

None of us on here are Troy Bayliss so I wouldn't worry too much. I'd like to go a lot quicker around Brands as well. My fastest timed lap was a 56.5 on a 620 monster Desmo Due bike but on Supercorsa's (after I did MRO Minitwins at Cadwell).

I've gone quicker around there on an R1 and an R6 but they weren't timed so I don't know what they'd be. I'm pretty keen to get out on that circuit on a sorted R6 and see what I can do!
